Collagen P.I.N. (percutaneous induction needling) also known as microneedling, is a controlled way of introducing new growth factors including collagen and elastin with the least amount of invasiveness or injury to the skin. This helps in introducing new skin cell growth with a quick healing process and a faster skin rejuvenation process. It is a better and safer way for skin rejuvenation then dermal skin therapy and laser treatments.
Physicians can control the depth of introducing the microneedles into the skin in areas where there is thin skin such as under eyes, crows feet and forehead minimizing the amount of injury in these areas.
Microneedling has proved to be an excellent medical aesthetic treatment for acne, scars, fine lines and wrinkles and in giving an overall improved facial skin appearance. It has also shown its effectiveness in inducing hair growth due to alopecia (hair loss) with the use of rogaine as a base.
A minimum of 3 treatments are recommended with maintenance therapy once a year. Areas that can be treated with microneedling are:
Face: acne treatment maintenance therapy every 3-6 months
Face: rosacea treatment
Alopecia (hair loss) treatment (with Rogaine)
The results for microneedling can be seen right away post-treatment leaving the skin tighter, brighter and more rejuvenated with results improving up to 2 weeks after treatment.
WHAT is P.I.N.?
Percutaneous Induction Needling (P.I.N.) or Percutaneous Collagen Induction Therapy (P.C.I.T.) is also known as micro-needling. This method introduces, a method of introducing a controlled wound into the skin triggering a release of natural growth factors, new collagen & elastin.
HOW is the procedure performed?
In this procedure, the needles are used to puncture the skin to create a controlled skin injury. Each puncture creates a channel that triggers the body to fill these microscopic wounds by producing new collagen and elastin. Through the process of neovascularization and neocollagenesis, there is improvement in skin texture and firmness, as well as reduction in scars, pore size and stretch marks.
WHAT can it treat?
PCI has proved to be a simple and fast method for safely treating wrinkles and scars. The epidermis remains intact, thus, the procedure can be safely repeated. It is also suited in regions where laser treatments and deep peels are not typically performed, such as around the eyes and mouth, hands, and chest. PCI therapy is now becoming widely used as a treatment for photoaged skin to improve the skin’s appearance and quality. It is also used to, and to improve or prevent scarring.
HOW does Collagen P.I.N. differ from laser treatment?
When used correctly resurfacing lasers can be a great tool for treating aging skin. However, lasers use focused light to produce heat to destroy certain colors of pigmentation and vaporizes skin. This is great for targeting dark spots but often leads to complications when treating patients with naturally darker skin.
Collagen P.I.N. breaks up pigment mechanically and remodels the collagen without heat or the light. When the heat is removed from the process, it makes for a much safer, more comfortable and more consistent treatment. No heat also equals less downtime.
IS the procedure safe?
Microneedling causes much less damage to the epidermis than dermal rolling or lasers and other ablative treatments, which helps to protect the new skin cell growth providing for quicker healing, higher success rate and longer lasting results. The procedure is well tolerated by patients with minimal downtime, and can be easily personalized by going deeper on some areas where skin damage requires a more aggressive approach.
Most Collagen P.I.N. patients have a healthy glow immediately after the procedure, which lessens dramatically within 24 hours or less. Most patients are back to work the same day and out to dinner the same evening and experience little to no downtime.
